Minimize risk to protect children and preserve confidence in your care

More than five children die from child abuse and neglect in the United States every day. One in ten children will be sexually abused by the time they are 18. And nine of 10 of these victims are abused by someone they know and trust.

If your organization serves or works with children:

Are all staff and volunteers trained in child abuse prevention?

Does your team know how to recognize and report abuse?

Do you conduct background checks on staff and volunteers?

Do you provide abuse prevention resources to parents and caregivers?

Are you teaching children about internet safety and bullying prevention?

Without precautions, your organization is vulnerable to significant risks such as legal consequences, damage to your reputation and, most importantly, compromised child safety.

The Shield of Protection® protects children and the organizations serving them

The Shield of Protection® helps schools, camps and youth-serving organizations create safe environments and protect children from abuse. Every organization that becomes a certified Shield of Protection® partner shows a take-charge stance to keep children from harm, giving families the assurance that it prioritizes child safety. Organizations with the Shield of Protection® designation protect themselves as well by minimizing child abuse risk.

The program provides:

full assessment of policies, programs and procedures to identify areas of improvement and risk
policy reviews to ensure alignment with best practices and standards
expert guidance when challenges arise
workshops to educate adults and children on child abuse prevention and online safety
access to a resource library with valuable tools and information

Our tiered approach allows your organization to choose the level of support that best meets your needs, from basic guidance to fully customized recommendations. As a Shield of Protection® partner, you receive access to experts dedicated to preventing the physical, emotional and sexual abuse of children.
